1: 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

1: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day.

11: World Population Day. It was first inaugurated by the United Nations in 1990 to mark the date of July 11, 1987 when the world's population hit 5 billion. Since 1996, every World Population Day has had a special theme defined by the UNFPA.

24: Torch Festival, days-long main holiday of the Yi ethnic minority. Usually held after the 24th day of the 6th lunar month, although groups living Guizhou Province celebrate it around the 3rd. Activities include music and dance, bullfights and a torch parade.

31: New Year Festival of Tujia ethnic minority. On the 1st day of the 7th lunar month, families prepare delicious food and invite their relatives and friends for a gathering.

Langshan Festival, a 12-day-long celebration held in southern Gansu’s Tibetan community in the latter half of the sixth lunar month. Activities include horse racing, wrestling, music and dance, and making of religious offerings.

Notes:

1. In the traditional calendar, the new moon indicates the first day of a lunar month; the full moon marks the 15th day.

2. Dates in red are official holidays. To give workers longer holidays during the year, the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding or following the extended holiday are official workdays. In 2011, there are six official working Saturdays and Sundays respectively on January 30 (Sunday), February 12 (Saturday), April 2 (Saturday), October 8 (Saturday), October 9 (Sunday) and December 31 (Saturday).
