Vice President of the Beijing Writers Association Xu Kun (徐坤)?was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, in March 1965. She began publishing novels in 1993.

Vice President of the Beijing Writers Association Xu Kun was born in Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning Province, in March 1965. She received her doctor’s degree in Literature from the Graduate School at the Chinese Academy of Social Science.

Xu published her first novel in 1993. Her most representative works include medium-length novels "The Vernacular Language (Baihua)," "The Avant-Garde (Xianfeng)," "The Hotdog (Regou)" and "Tongtian River (Tongtianhe)." Her short stories include "The Kitchen (Chufang)," "Goddamned Football (Gouri de zuqiu)" and "Last Tango at Midnight Square (Wuye guangchang zuihou de tange)."

Xu’s full-length novels are "22 Nights in Spring (Chuntian de ershier ge yewan)," "Love You for Two and a Half Weeks (Aini liangzhouban)," "Weed Roots (Yecao gen)" and "August Rhapsody (Bayue kuangxiangqu)"

She has also written several dramatic scripts such as "The Blue Fox (Qinghu)" (adapted from Wang Meng’s novel) and "Financial Street (Jinrongjie)." Her full-length drama "Sensitive Man (Xingqing nannv)" was staged at the Beijing People’s Art Theater in 2006.

"The Kitchen (Chufang)" was awarded the second Lu Xun Literary Prize. "August Rhapsody (Bayuekuangxiangqu)" won the Five-One Project award from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as well as the fourth Lao She Literary Prize. "Weed Roots (Yecaogen)" was named one of the Top Ten Chinese Books in 2007 by Hong Kong magazine Asia Week.

Xu won more than 20 national awards, including the Feng Mu Literary Prize and Zhuang Zhongwen Literary Prize. Several of her works have been translated into English, French, Russian and Japanese.
