China and Indonesia Monday inked a package of economic and trade cooperation agreements worth some 6. 6 billion U.S. dollars.

The agreements, covering areas such as finance, energy, electricity and agriculture, were signed after Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, the country's top legislature, held talks with Marzuki Alie, speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives.

During the meeting, Wu, who is here for an official visit, proposed to achieve the set goal of increasing the bilateral trade volume to 50 billion U.S. dollars by 2014.

Wu also raised a proposal for both sides to expand bilateral cooperation in investment, corporation and trade to further upgrade bilateral economic and trade ties. China will encourage Chinese corporations to participate in major construction projects in Indonesia, Wu said.

The Chinese top legislator also called for closer coordination and communication in dealing with international and regional affairs between the two countries and joining efforts in safeguarding the benefits of the two countries and the whole developing world. China supported Indonesia to play a bigger role in dealing with international and regional affairs, Wu said.

Describing Wu's visit as a major event in the history of bilateral ties, Marzuki Alie said the two peoples have benefited from bilateral cooperation that has enjoyed rapid growth in recent years.

Alie suggested China and Indonesia make full use of the China- ASEAN Free Trade Area to further expand the mutual-beneficial cooperation in areas including infrastructure, energy resource exploration and trade.

Wu arrived in Jakarta on Monday morning from Denpasar, capital city of Bali Province of Indonesia.
