China's stocks closed mixed on Friday, the last trading day before the two bourses in Shanghai and Shenzhen begin a period of closing due to the upcoming seven-day National Day Holiday that starts on Saturday.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index continued to drop after falling to a one-year low on Thursday. The index fell 0.26 percent, or 6.12 points, to close at 2,359.22 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.04 percent, or 4.43 points, to finish at 10,292.33.

Combined turnover on the two bourses shrank sharply to 82.8 billion yuan (13 billion U.S. dollars) from 105.26 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most sectors posted declines due to weak market sentiment. Losers outnumbered gainers 495 to 428 in Shanghai and 711 to 682 in Shenzhen.

Bucking the trend, gold and liquor-related shares rose. Zhongjin Gold Corp. Ltd. rose 1.69 percent to 22.28 yuan per share. China's national liquor Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd. also rose 1.87 percent to 190.59 yuan per share.
