Sergey Alexandrovich Lukonin was born on May 15, 1981. He is Associate PhD of Economics at the Institute of Far East, Russian Academy of Sciences, Researcher at the Asia Pacific Research Center of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, and expert at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. He has published more than 30 academic papers on world economy, and conducted research at the Russian Technologies State Corporation, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, and Gazprombank. He lectures on the protection of personal data and trade secret at Russian Federation Knowledge Association. He participates in training projects at Rusnano, Rosneft, Surgutneftegas, and Gazprom Moscow Transportation Company. He is sponsored by Japanese International Exchange Foundation and also a young scholar supported by a BP project.

Abstract

This paper illustrates the ever-growing competition between China and Russia in the Central Asian region and the risk and opportunity brought to Russia by the Silk Road Economic Belt. This paper will point out new and promising prospects in the realm of Russia-China relations and how they are being shaped under the framework of Russia's development strategy in the Far East. This paper also discusses the possibility of the coordinated implementation of Russia's development strategy in the Far East and the strategy of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
