Abstract

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my thoughts about the role and responsibilities of media in building the Silk Road Economic Belt. And I’m also interested in hearing your views on this topic. The Silk Road is a road of friendship, a road of culture and also a road of cooperation. It is of the utmost importance for the Silk Road Economic Belt project to start with cultural cooperation. As an important channel for cultural exchange, media outlets in the countries along the road must understand their roles, shoulder their responsibilities and facilitate cultural exchanges and communication among these people. We should enhance cooperation in terms of journalism, human resource management, information technology and business development and serve both the economic integration and cultural exchange using the already established cooperation platforms in the fields of economy, technology, finance, transportation, trade and tourism.CRI aims to introduce China to the rest of the world, cover world affairs and enhance understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from other countries. For now, we are focusing our efforts on increasing programs covering six strategic regions worldwide.Between May 18 and May 21, CRI and the ITAR-TASS News Agency jointly held the 16th Congress of the World Association of the Russian-Language Press (WARP) in Shanghai, boosting our effort to expand program covering the Silk Road countries. We’ll continue collaborate with media in these countries to push forward the project. We sincerely hope to fulfill our responsibilities as a media outlet, work together with all of our partners to expand, upgrade and deepen our collaboration so as to do more contribution to the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
