Managers and public servants are deemed dream husbands by Shanghai's single women, while the majority of local females view ownership of an apartment as a prerequisite for marriage, according to a survey by one of the biggest matchmaking websites in China.

More than 2,600 Shanghainese, 45 percent of them females, participated in the online survey conducted by Baihe.com. About 60 percent of respondents are younger than 30 and over half have a bachelor's degree or above.

Slightly over one-third of female respondents said workers in management positions are their favored future husbands, and 31 percent mentioned public servants, followed by engineering technical personnel. In a nationwide survey conducted by Baihe.com, public servants topped the list.

"I hope my future husband will be an administrator because the occupation gives me a sense of security, as I think management personnel have responsibility and enterprising spirit, and they have a broad view of things," said Chen Liyin, a 27-year-old working in a trade company.

More than 64 percent of local female respondents believe that only when their future partners have an apartment can they marry.

More than 42 percent of women said they would ask their husbands to add their names on the property ownership certificate, and 60.5 percent of local male respondents said they would be willing to add their wives' names even if they alone had purchased the apartment.

"I plan to add my girlfriend's name on the certificate when we marry to give her a sense of security," said Kevin Guo, a local man working at Shanghai Telecom, who will marry his girlfriend early next year.
