Community with a Shared Future

Building a community with a shared future is one of the key ideas proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. By the end of May 2015, he had spoken about this topic on more than 60 occasions. In an address at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in March 2013, he brought up this idea for the first time. He said, "It is a world where countries are linked with and dependent on one another at a level never seen before. Mankind, by living in the same global village in the same era and on the same earth where history and reality meet, has increasingly emerged as a community with a shared future in which everyone has in himself a little bit of others." The Belt and Road Initiative

The Belt and Road Initiative, also known as the Land &Maritime Silk Road Initiative or the "One Belt, One Road" Initiative, refers to China’s proposal to build a Silk Road Economic Belt and a 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. During his visits to Central and Southeast Asia in September and October 2013, respectively, Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled the plans to implement this initiative in cooperation with related countries. The initiative is based on five conceptual pillars – policy coordination, connectivity of facilities, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and strengthened people-to-people ties – and on the principle of mutual discussion, building jointly, and sharing the benefits equally, so as to bring genuine happiness to the people along the belt and road.
