Tips for living in novel coronavirus-infected communities (Part 1)

1.Does taking an elevator pose a risk of possible transmission of the infection?

Yes, it does. But the risk is preventable.

The nCov is mainly spread through droplets and contact. You have a higher chance of getting infected via the droplets from the coughing, sneezing or talking of a virus-carrier in the elevator since the space is small and enclosed. When the droplets fall onto the buttons or the wall, one can get infected by touching their mouth, nose or eyes after coming into contact with those contaminated surfaces.

Please wear a mask in the elevator and avoid touching your face with your hands. Wash your hands immediately when arriving home.

2.What about the stair handrails or other public facilities in the community?

Yes, they pose a risk of infection as well because viruses can be attached to the surfaces of those facilities and then transmitted to other people by direct contact.

Do not touch those things and avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes and wash your hands as soon as possible after any necessary contact.

3.Is it still safe to use a public toilet if confirmed cases of the nCov have been identified in the neighborhood?

Yes, normally it is safe but you have to be more careful.

Please guard against any contact risks in the public toilets by washing your hands and disinfecting your clothes properly and any droplet transmission risks by wearing a mask.

4. Is the household waste disposed of by the people with suspected or confirmed cases a source of infection?

Yes, it could be, but not likely.

Suggestions:

Wash your hands properly at all times or take an alcohol-based sanitizer with you;

Avoid touching anything suspicious;

Wear disposable gloves if you have to lift the dustbin lid with your hands;

Put the used masks in sealed bags and dispose of them as hazardous waste.

新型冠狀病毒主要通過飛沫傳播和接觸傳播。電梯是密閉狹小的環(huán)境,如果與病毒攜帶者同乘電梯,可能會(huì)被其咳嗽、噴嚏、講話帶來的飛沫感染;

(1)任何時(shí)候都認(rèn)真洗手,或帶一瓶酒精免洗洗手液;

(2)盡量不碰可疑的東西;

(3)丟垃圾時(shí),如果一定要掀垃圾蓋,最好戴上一次性手套;
