The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has briefed the media on post-quake emergency operations. It says that under the the direction of the central government, the administration immediately launched an emergency proposal after the Wenchuan earthquake struck more than two weeks ago.

Deputy Director Zhi Shuping says the quality inspection of products and materials delivered to the quake zone, especially food, has been further enhanced. He says international aid materials and staff were allowed to enter China after immediate supervision.

The General Administration has also set up three groups to participate in the post-quake operations. These groups have been working on inspection, epidemic prevention and special equipment repair.

Zhi Shuping, Deputy Director of AQSIQ said "About 8 teams with more than 100 inspectors brought vehicles and inspection equipment to the quake zone to supervise such items as food, drinking water and building materials."

Another 19 teams with more than 190 medical workers participated in epidemic prevention.

Zhi Shuping said "They used more than 30,000 kilograms of medicine to sterilize about 28 million square meters. The General Administration also sent 10 thousand emergency medicine boxes to the quake zone."

The deputy director says more than 20 thousand items of special equipment, such as elevators, boilers and cranes, were damaged in the quake. 19 teams with more than 2800 equipment inspectors from across the nation have repaired all the damaged units. This allowed many of the injured to receive treatment in time.

Zhi says the post-quake emergency operations are still in an important phase. The General Administration will continue enhancing technical service to affected areas, ensuring the quality of reconstruction, as well as boosting support to businesses in the quake zone.
