China Won Anti-dumping Case on Metallurgical Coke

As the US International Trade Commission lately declared there was no reasonable evidence to show that China and Japan's metallurgical coke has caused damage to American metallurgical coke enterprises, therefore, putting the anti-dumping case to an end. This means that China has won the case and can continue to export metallurgical coke to the US.

Metallurgical coke is usually exported to other countries in large amount. China exported 1.8 million tons of metallurgical coke to America in 2000, earning US$100 million. Last June 29, American four metallurgical coke producers filed a lawsuit to the US Department of Commerce and US International Trade Commission for anti-dumping investigation of China and Japan's metallurgical cokes. After China Chamber of Commerce For Import & of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals got the news, it published a notice on International Business Daily to answer the case and organized related enterprises to deal with it.

Person in charge of the Chamber said that in accordance with American law, the suitor still has the right to appeal to United States Court of International Trade (USCIT). Moreover, should China increase rapidly the coke products to the US and the price cause an impact on the market, American side may bring the case up to the court again. In view of this, adjusting product export is very important. Enterprises should have a better command about their export volume and price, low price dumping and bad competition shall be prohibited in order to avoid a new round of anti-dumping case.

China Wins Lawsuit of EU Granite Anti-dumping Case

News from relevant departments say that the related enterprises of the European Union (EU) have lately withdrawn the anti-dumping action to China's granite export. The EU has made a formal decision that the inspection of this case has been brought to an end and China has no need to pay anti-dumping taxes, indicating that China has stood out a complete winner in the granite anti-dumping action. As reported, this case was formally placed on file on November 11, 2000 for the investigation of China's granite export to EU. Granite is one of China's major export goods to the EU as building materials. In recent years, China has made a sharp increase in granite export to the EU, with an estimated value of some 40 million US$dollars in the investigation period.
