Shanghai not so energy efficient
Adjust font size:

The energy consumption per unit of GDP is much higher in Shanghai than in the world's other metropolises or developed regions, according to The Report on Development of Shanghai's Resources & Environment (2008) issued by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on January 22.

The statistics in the report show that in 2005 Shanghai's energy consumption per ten thousand US dollars of GDP was 4.98 tons of standard oil, or 3.86 times more than Hong Kong's, 1.21 times more than Singapore's and 1.61 times more than Taiwan's.

In terms of total energy consumption, Shanghai is not so energy efficient either. From 2000 to 2005, the total energy consumption of Shanghai increased by 7.97 percent while that of South Korea and Taiwan only grew by 3.28 percent and 3.27 percent respectively.
