CPC diplomacy dossier: February 2006

6 to 12           A CPC delegation led by Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, visited Bangladesh and Pakistan at the invitation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Wang had meetings with Khaleda Zia, Bangladeshi Prime Minister and Chairperson of the BNP, and with Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

 

15 to 28         A CPC delegation led by Ma Wenpu, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, visited Dominica, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. Invitations had been extended by the Dominican Liberation Party (DLP), the People's National Movement of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and the People's Progress Party of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, respectively. The CPC delegation had meetings with Dominican Vice President Rafael Albuquerque de Castro, DLP General Secretary Leonel Fernández, Patrick Manning, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Leader of the People's National Movement, Guyana Speaker Ralph Ramkarran, and People's Progress Party Leader Clement Rohee.

 

17 to 21         A delegation from the Morocco Independence Party led by Abd al Haqq Taz, member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Independence Party group in the Congress, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Liu Yunshan, member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee met with the delegation.

 

19 to 23         A Japanese Ruling Alliance Delegation, jointly headed by Hidenao Nakagawa, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) Policy Research Council, and Yoshihisa Inoue, Chairman of the Komei Party Policy Research Council, visited China to attend the first meeting under the China-Japan Ruling Parties Exchange Mechanism. Li Changchun, member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with the delegation.  Li said sound Sino-Japanese relations are conducive to the fundamental interests of the two peoples and to the prosperity and stability of Asia and the rest of the world. He pointed out that the CPC and the Chinese government place great importance on Sino-Japanese relations. Li also hoped the two sides would abide by the principles of the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, the Peace and Friendship Treaty and the Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration. He called for the two sides to draw lessons from history to guide the future and to strive to realize peaceful coexistence, long-lasting friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development.

 

19 to March 2 A delegation of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front led by Bereket Simon visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairperson of the National People's Congress met with the delegation.

 

20 to March 1 An African Party for Democracy and Socialism delegation from Senegal led by Landing Savané, State Minister for Presidential Affairs, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee met with the delegation.

 

20 Feb to March 2  A delegation from the Labor Party of Mauritius (LPM) visited China as guests of the CPC. The delegation was led by Jean Chaumiere, LPM President and Deputy Speaker of the Mauritian National Parliament. During the visit, the delegation met with Han Qide, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

 

26 Feb to March 4  A delegation from the Socialist Group in the European Parliament was in Beijing at the invitation of the CPC. The delegation was led by Martin Schulz, Chairman of the Socialist Group. During the visit, the delegation met with Wu Bangguo, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Wu said that the CPC hoped to foster good relations with all parties in the European Parliament including the Socialist Group. He stressed that China's National People's Congress also looks forward to increasing friendly exchanges with the European Parliament to push forward the China-EU all-round strategic partnership.
