I'm from the grassroots. When I was unemployed, I worked at many odd jobs, carrying gas bottles, riding a tricycle with the help of the Party and the government, I became a community worker. From this unique perspective, I have witnessed dramatic changes for the ordinary people, especially the impact of Party policies on social welfare. They give people hope.

Li Jinxia, Party secretary of Senlin Community, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province

Last year, 1.1 million Communist Youth League members were recommended to and absorbed by the Party. As reserves, the Youth League is where the nation's best and brightest young people have chances to learn and train themselves, and it is also where the best is channeled to the Party.

Hu Chunhua, first secretary of the secretariat of the Communist Youth League central committee

I'm a pragmatic person. I feel it is meaningful to work in special education. It gives me joy, too. Whenever I see the smile of a kid, a parent's smile, I see the Party's and government's love for them. It is the evolution from small joy to big harmony.

Zhou Ye, headmaster of Dongcheng District School of Special Education, Beijing

I'm a lucky person. And I was surprised that the little I did caught the attention of others. My responsibility is to attend this Party Congress, convey what I saw and learned here to my colleagues, and share with my students the spirit of the event.

Bao Han, counselor at Fudan University, Shanghai

It's the first time I've participated in politics. I'm very excited. It's a good chance to learn from the elites of every segment of society, which will enrich my life experience. The part about culture, education and a scientific view of development in the report is very helpful to us athletes.

Sun Tiantian, tennis player

Scientific Outlook of Development is bliss to those of us who live on the grasslands. We will coordinate relations between man and nature, economy and society, city and village. The conflict between man and animal lies in man.

We should subsidize programs to relocate our kids from grasslands to urban areas, as our elderly and working-age population decreases, so that pressure on the grassland will be reduced. As the environment is revitalized, production will increase and so will herdsmen's income.

Liu Zhuozhi, Party secretary of Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

(China Daily October 22, 2007)
