HK to Launch First Bachelor of Arts in Photography

The first and only Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) in Photography in Hong Kong will start in January 2005, said course coordinator of Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) LukasTam of the Art School of Hong Kong here Monday.

As the creative industry thrives in Hong Kong, the need for photography professionals also grows, which aroused the idea of launching a bachelor's program in Photography in Hong Kong, said Tam.

The program was co-organized by the Art School of Hong Kong and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University.

It comprises both practical and theoretical subjects and is tailor-made for people who have keen interest in photography and arts, and those who want to become a photographer or in search of career advancement and professional qualification in the field, said Tam.

Students will benefit from the exposure to contemporary arts and the latest trend of photographic development and skills, which will equip them with unlimited creativity and expertise, added Tam.

Apart from the major subjects, students can take different arts subjects in addition to arts history and theoretical research subjects. The program will feature a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, studio practices, workshops, case studies, critiques and class discussions.

Students can also engage in a broad range of photographic and digital imaging training and theoretical research.

The intensive areas of the course are delivered by professional artists and teaching staff from the Art School and the School of Art and Culture at RMIT University.
