Thick ice covering the edges of the Hukou Waterfall
Adjust font size:  ZoomIn ZoomOut

A marvelous "ice curtain", formed by icicles hanging from rocks, was seen on Monday at Hukou Waterfall in north-western China's Shaanxi Province.

The unique curtain appeared as the temperature dropped to 10 degrees centigrade below zero overnight, freezing the running water into ice crystals.

Hukou Waterfall, the second largest waterfall in China, is a famous tourist attraction on the Yellow River. The riverbed here is like an enormous teapot absorbing all the rushing water, so the waterfall is named Hukou Waterfalls (Kettle Spout Falls).
