The anti-Fascist war between the 1930s and 1940s was the first just war of a global scale in human history. It ended in the Axis' unconditional surrender in 1945, 60 years ago. Over 2 billion people in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania (exceeding four-fifths of the world population at that time) were involved in the war. People who had experienced that unheard-of calamity will never forget those days when flames of battle raged everywhere. Defending the Northeast The Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army struggled for 14 years (1931–1945) at the rear of the Japanese invading forces, wearing down the aggressors with prolonged and determined harassment. This allowed the Soviet Union to focus its military strength on its fight against Germany. Zhao Yiman led the Trolley Bus Workers Anti-Japanese Strike in April 1933 and the following year she established resistance units of farmers' guerrillas. Yang Jingyu, commander-in-chief and political commissar of the First Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army. Zhao Shangzhi (1908-1942), commander of the Northeast Anti-Japan Allied Army in 1934. Zhou Baozhong (1902--1964), designated army commander of Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army in 1936. The Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army kept up their fight against the invaders for long years in northeast China.
