Six-Party Talks Continue Closed-door Meeting

The fourth round of six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue continues closed-door meeting Wednesday, the second day of the negotiation.  

Chinese delegation's spokesperson Qin Gang said yesterday the negotiators will have a plenary session in the morning, and bilateral talks will be held in the afternoon.

 

He told yesterday afternoon's press briefing that resolving the nuclear issue is a "complicated" process, and that it is hard to predict what results can be achieved.

 

The duration of the talks depends on how the talks are going on, said Qin.

 

Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, at the opening ceremony yesterday morning, urged all the negotiators to show flexibility and take a pragmatic attitude to seek "positive progress."

 

The talks, involving China, the US, Russia, Japan, South and North Korea, started at 9:00 AM Tuesday, with a plenary meeting held in the morning and direct contacts between the delegations in the afternoon.

 

Heads of the six delegations are Wu Dawei, Chinese vice foreign minister, Kim Kye-gwan, North Korean deputy foreign minister, Sasae Kenichiro, director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Song Min-soon, South Korean deputy minister of foreign affairs and trade, Alexander Alexeyev, Russian deputy foreign minister, and Christopher Hill, US assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs.
