What are the rules for foreign media reporting in China?
Adjust font size:

Hello,

I am a journalist form Israel. I plan to come to china this coming February and live in Beijing for one year. I want to be a reporter for Israeli media in Beijing.

What do I need to do, if I wish to arrive in Beijing at February and start reporting to my country, without doing anything that is illegal in China?

Yermi M.Amin

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sir,

China has enacted a set of new regulations granting foreign journalists more freedom to report in China in the run-up to and during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games since the beginning of this year.

The regulations are scheduled to expire on Oct. 17, 2008.
Under the regulations, foreign journalists who are non-residents in China will not necessarily have to be accompanied or assisted by a Chinese official when they report in China.

Foreign journalists also no longer need to apply to provincial foreign affairs offices for permission to report in all provinces of China, but need only obtain prior consent of the organizations or individuals they want to interview.

The regulation also allows foreign reporters to interview and report on all aspects of China, not just the Olympics.
