More Countries Voice Support for Anti-Secession Law

More countries across the world have expressed support for China's Anti-Secession Law, which was passed last Monday by the National People's Congress to prevent Taiwan's secession from China.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud on Monday said that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and the adoption of the law was meant to oppose foreign interference and peacefully settle the issue.

Hammoud told the Chinese ambassador to Lebanon that his country adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's efforts to reunify the country.

Also on Monday, Moldova's Foreign Ministry reiterated in a statement that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

The ministry noted that Moldova understands measures taken by China to prevent the separatists from splitting the island from China.

In Africa, Cote d'Ivoire's President Laurent Gbagbo and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Mamadou Bamba have also voiced their support for the newly adopted law.

The two leaders told Chinese Ambassador Ma Zhixue that Cote d'Ivoire fully understands and supports the Anti-Secession Law and opposes any secessionist activities taken by Taiwan authorities.

In Khartoum, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry also welcomed the adoption of the law, noting Khartoum would firmly support all efforts taken by China to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.

The Anti-Secession Law came into effect last Monday after President Hu Jintao signed a presidential decree to promulgate it.
