Top Legislator: China Satisfied with Ties with Morocco

Top legislator Wu Bangguo said in Rabat Monday that China is satisfied with the smooth development of cooperative relations with Morocco and the marked results achieved since the establishment of diplomatic ties 47 years ago.

Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, told Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou that China wishes to work with Rabat to advance bilateral economic ties and trade to a new level.

He noted that trade and economic cooperation between China and Morocco have been developing soundly as a whole in recent years, with trade volume going up rapidly, areas of cooperation expanding continuously, and modes of cooperation growing with each passing day, bringing tangible benefits to both countries and both peoples.

Wu, who is here on a three-day official goodwill visit, the first by an NPC head to Morocco, said the economies of China and Morocco are highly complementary, with great potentials and bright vistas in economic and trade cooperation.

China stands ready to work with the Moroccan side to improve the trade mix, strengthen corporate and industrial cooperation, undertake investment collaboration in resources, fisheries, telecommunications and textiles, and expand tourism cooperation, so as to push bilateral economic and trade relations to a new high, Wu said.

Jettou agreed with Wu's appraisal of bilateral relations and proposals for stronger economic and trade cooperation.

Morocco and China have all along maintained good bilateral ties and shared identical or similar views on key international and regional issues, and understood and supported each other on issues of mutual concern, Jettou said.

He called for stronger cooperation in investment and tourism, saying Rabat welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Morocco and jointly tap the African and European markets.

The Moroccan government will create conditions facilitating cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries, the prime minister said.

After their talks, Wu and Jettou attended the signing ceremony of several documents on bilateral economic and technical cooperation, management of textiles and personnel training.

Wu will wrap up his Morocco tour today and go to the UN to attend the Second World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments.
