Wen Meets Myanmar PM to Enhance Cooperation

Premier Wen Jiabao met in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday with Myanmar Prime Minister Soe Win on enhancing bilateral cooperation.

 

During the meeting, Wen said the China-Myanmar relations have developed very well, with a continuous deepening and strengthening of cooperation in various fields.

 

Developing the China-Myanmar friendship is an important component of China's external policy, he noted.

 

China will, as always, maintain its policy of friendship toward Myanmar and deepen a multi-dimensional and multi-level cooperation with it, so as to push the China-Myanmar ties to continuously forge ahead, he noted.

 

Wen said that the economies of China and Myanmar are mutually supplementary, and the cooperation between the two sides has all recorded significant achievements in agriculture, manpower and energy resources, infrastructure and other key fields.

 

He expressed his hope that the two sides implement well relevant projects and agreements, and strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and energy.

 

Soe Win agreed with Wen over his assessment of the bilateral relations, expressing his thanks to China for the valuable support it has rendered in Myanmar's economic construction.

 

Noting that Myanmar and China share many common interests, he expressed the hope that the two countries deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in line with the consensus and agreements reached between the two sides.

 

On the situation in Myanmar, Wen said what has happened in Myanmar is its internal affairs, and should be dealt with by the government and people of Myanmar, while the international community should provide constructive help to them.

 

Wen expressed his belief that the Myanmar government and people can tackle their own problems well and expedite Myanmar's national reconciliation process.

 

Soe Win briefed Wen on the domestic situation in Myanmar, and the two sides agreed to strengthen drug control cooperation.
