China Hopes Six-Party Talks to Finish in 3 to 4 Days
Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, who is also China's chief negotiator to the six-party talks, said on Wednesday that he hopes the upcoming session of six-party talks will accomplish its mission within three to four days.

Wu's remarks came after the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ended their second-day of talks on financial issues.

Wu said preparations are now being made for the third phase of the fifth round of the six-party talks and he hopes they will achieve positive results.

Wu said he is not aware of the results of the separate talks between the United States and the DPRK, adding that China is not planning to meet with the chief negotiators from the discussion.

Daniel Glaser, U.S. Treasury Department's deputy assistant secretary for terrorist financing and financial crimes, held talks with O Kwang Chol, president of the DPRK's Foreign Trade Bank at the U.S Embassy in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon. The two sides met again on Wednesday at the DPRK Embassy in Beijing.

China on Tuesday announced that the six-party talks on the Korean peninsular nuclear issue will resume in Beijing on Feb. 8. The six parties include China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and Russia.
