Weather Forecast for the Spring Festival Holiday

Southern China will see more overcast and rainy or snowy days during the holiday.

 

Southern China will be covered by frequent cloudy skies and will see more rain or snowfall in the Spring Festival holiday with lower temperatures. After precipitation, heavy fog might be seen throughout areas south of the Yangtze River and south China. Detailed forecast follows:

 

February 8 to 11, the Hanshui River valley, the Yangtze-Huaihe rivers valley, areas south of the Yangtze River and most of south China as well as Guizhou, Chongqing and eastern Sichuan will receive continuous light to moderate rainfall or snow with moderate to heavy snow expected in some of the Hanshui River valley and northern areas south of the Yangtze River, while central portions of areas south of the Yangtze will get heavy rain. The highest temperature in the middle and lower reaches of areas south of the Yangtze River will be less than 8 degrees Celsius with lowest temperatures below minus 4 degrees Celsius. February 12, western areas south of the Yangtze River, western sections of south China, Guizhou, Chongqing Municipality and eastern Sichuan Province will experience continuous overcast and rainy days. February 13 to 15, southern China will see more precipitation from west to east with light to moderate rainfall expected in most of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, accompanied by heavy rain in northern areas south of the Yangtze. February 13 to 15, areas south of the Yangtze River and south China could see heavy fog.

 

Northern China will be dominated by sunny days.

 

Though affected by two weak streams of cold air, northern China should have no strong wind or heavy snow during the Spring Festival holiday. Detailed forecast follows:  

February 8, eastern parts of northwest China and some of north China will have light snowfall. February 9 to 10, central and northernmost parts of north China and northeast China will experience force 4 to 5 northerly winds; February 11 to 13, most of northern China will be mainly sunny with temperatures rising; February 13 to 15, one weak stream of cold air will bring light snow to some regions of northern China.
