Linzhi, Tibet Takes Tourism to New Heights

Linzhi area, haled as "Tibet's Jiangnan (areas south of the Yangtze River)," has strived to develop unique tourist resorts with distinctive ethnic features, create new tourist routes, and build itself up as a world-class tourism hotspot in the "Roof of the World."

The area received 320,000 visitors from home and abroad and earned more than 72 million yuan in 2004.

Linzhi lies in the southeast of Tibet, more than 3000 meters high on average. Tibetans, Monba, Lhola and other minority groups with their unique customs populate the area.

The geography and human diversity make this rarely visited, sparsely populated land an ideal destination for traveling, sightseeing, scientific research and adventure.

This one small area is home to some of the greatest geographical discoveries of the 20th century: the world's largest canyon, Brahmaputra Canyon, the best preserved primeval forest in the world, Zibagou State Natural Protection Zone, Sejila and Basongcuo State Forest Parks, and Yigong State Geologic Park.

All are invaluable resources for building a world-class tourism destination.

LInzhi has begun the multi-faceted Xiangbala Tourism Project, with 6 unique tourist routes, 8 tourist resorts and more than 50 scenic spots. The innovative project has stimulated the development of 4 major tourist routes in the Niyang River strip, Basongcuo State 4A Tourist Resorts, Lulang Forest and Brahmaputra Canyon Ecotourism Area, integrated scattered tourist spots into key products, accelerated construction of supporting facilities and upgraded the tourism industry of the area.

Moreover, Linzhi has strengthened marketing potential by holding programs with unique themes, such as the Peach Blossom Festival, Azalea Festival and Kampot New Year.
