S Korea: Six-Party Talks at 'Important Crossroad'
Adjust font size:  ZoomIn ZoomOut

Chief negotiator of South Korea Chun Yung-woo said in Beijing Thursday afternoon that the current six-party talks on Korean Peninsular nuclear issue are at "an important crossroad" and the negotiations need to move from words to actions.

The denuclearization of the Korean Peninsular did not depend on any single party, Chun told reports when left hotel for the bilateral talks with Japan, "Therefore, joint efforts, wisdom and flexibility from all six countries are badly needed now more than any other time."

He said it is too early to be optimistic over the results of the talks now. There will be arduous negotiations in the following days.

In response to the question whether the US and North Korea inked any memorandum on denuclearization during Berlin talks, Chun said he did not heard about it.

It is unsuitable for South Korea to say anything about the discussion between the US or North Korea, said Chun, adding as far as he knows, Hill has denied the information.

The fresh phase of the six-party talks will resume in Beijing later Thursday, focusing on initial steps to implement a 2005 joint statement.

The previous phase recessed in December last year after five days of negotiations which produced no breakthrough.
