Climate negotiators have "growing consensus" that two extra UN climate change conferences are needed in 2010, United Nations climate chief Yvo de Boer said Sunday.

At the first round of talks after the Copenhagen conference, negotiators are in Bonn to determine how to proceed with future climate talks and how many additional talks are needed in the run-up to the major UN climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of this year.

It was generally agreed that two extra talks should be held, de Boer, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), told a press conference.

"One will probably be held at the end of August here in Bonn, the other probably in September," he said. "The length and place of the second extra meeting have not been decided."

The U.S.delegation also confirmed the preliminary decision of adding two sessions in climate talks of 2010.

De Boer said a number of countries have been considering the possibility of hosting or financing the extra sessions.

He said final decisions would come up at the end of the current Bonn conference.
