Chinese pines planted on Songshan Mountain
Adjust font size:

Fifteen hundred Chinese pine trees were planted on Wednesday at a scenery spot in Dengfeng of central China's Henan Province.

Youths from Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Anyang plant Chinese pines at Sanhuang Village, a scenic zone on Songshan Mountain in central China's Henan Province on?March 12, 2008.

As many as 1,000 youths from Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Anyang participated in the activity, which is organized by the Zhengzhou Committee of the China Communist Youth League.

The Songshan Mountain ancient architecture group, a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage list, is located within the village.

Bottled water from the Longmen Grottoes and the Luo River and soil from the Yin Dynasty ruins in Anyang were brought to the site to nurture the newly planted trees.

Since both the Longmen Grottoes and the Yin Dynasty ruins have made the World Heritage list, the planters hope that the water and soil from these two places will bring good luck to the ancient architecture group.

The Songshan Mountain historic architecture group will be inspected and evaluated by international experts in August and September to determine if it should be included on the World Heritage list.

Monks from the local Shaolin Temple participate in the planting in Sanhuang Village on?March 12.
