My experiences filing tax forms, changing my address or collecting genealogical information in a variety of countries have been almost uniformly disheartening.

But most of my dealings with Chinese civil servants have been positive. I feel they deserve a word of praise.

China has sent engineers to Darfur and these have gained the trust of the warring factions. By aiding the Sudanese people economically, the Chinese are doing a much better job than Westerners, who tend to give only lip service to "concerns" about human rights and freedom and have not lifted a finger to help.

I just can't understand why so much distracting news has been coming from China, whether it is about air pollution, food safety or other such issues. We admit that there are many challenges to be overcome for the Olympics, but the Chinese people and the government have tried their best to deliver what the world expects to see.

I would be happy if foreigners who are married to Chinese were allowed to own property such as houses and cars.

If having a residence permit is the only way a foreigner can own property then l suggest foreigners who are married to Chinese be given residence visas.
