A Thai baby, who has been infected with the A/H1N1 virus, is now recovering, Doctor Thanin Phan-tu-dte-cha, director of Rat-cha-bu-ri Hospital in a central province of Rat-cha-bu-ri, said on Tuesday, Thai News Agency reported.

On July 25, the baby born premature at seven months after a cesarean section, was found to have caught the flu from the mother.

The 26-year-old mother, who had the new flu, gave the birth in Rat-cha-bu-ri province and was later transferred by helicopter to Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok.

This case has marked the first case of the prenatal infection with the A/H1N1 flu contracted from the mother in Thailand.

Chulalongkorn Hospital director Adisorn Patradul disclosed Monday the mother was still in critical condition with a lung infection and was on a respirator.

Bangkok Post on Tuesday reported that scientific and medical details of Thailand's first case of the fetus being infected with the A/H1N1 flu by the mother have been sent to the World Health Organization for study.

In a related development, Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbodi warns on Tuesday pregnant women need to see doctors quickly once they develop flu-like symptoms as there is no conclusion yet how the prenatal infection with A/H1N1 flu contracted from the mother has occurred.

On July 22, the ministry announced that fatalities had hit 44 since the new disease broke out in the country in May as on Wednesday the ministry is due to announce its weekly new flu situation, including of the death toll and number of the new virus infected patients.
