Presidents and government leaders from Latin America, Europe and the United States on Saturday called for a world economy based on new values of social progress.

It is time for new global values to sustain the economy and society, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said at the Progressive Leaders' Summit in the Chilean city of Vina del Mar.

Governments should be able to find "not only a theory about why the markets failed, but the policies to assure that this new global economy can work for the interest of the public," Brown said.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero called for more attentions on a "green economy."

"The future of the economy is the future of the green economy. As sooner as we reach that paradigm, we will recover the economic growth," Rodriguez Zapatero said.
