Continued dominance for Chinese windsurfer in Olympic medal bid

Chinese windsurfer Yin Jian had another low-point day on Tuesday to lead the RS:X women fleet at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.

Yin had the rest of the 27 boat fleet on the back foot finishing first in the first race, bouncing back from 2nd position by the fourth mark behind Jannicke Staalstroem from Norway.

The second race saw a determined Yin move from the 11th position by the first mark on the trapezoid inner course to the 3rd at the finishing line, making her top the overall standing on the second day.

"I really want to win the gold," Yin told Xinhua after the race. "I will do my best at every race to reach that."

"She is fast, absolutely," said 38-year-old Staalstroem from Norway. "She probably has been training harder than anyone else in the fleet. She is definitely the strongest in the light wind."

"If the situation continues, I think she could win the Olympic gold," she added.

China's Wang Aichen finished 7th after four races among the 35 boats entered in RS:X men. China's another medal favorite Xu Lijia failed to enter the top 10 after two races today due to a sluggish 24th finish in the first race of 28 boats.

World No. 2 Andrew Murdoch from Netherlands cleared out from the 43-boat Laser fleet to lead the lightweight single-handed dinghy class after two races.

Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page from Australia dominanted the 470 Men's standing, while their country crew Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson topped the 470 Women's leader board.

Tuesday is a reserve day for the Finns and Ynglings. The two classes will continue two more races on Wednesday along with 470 women and men, Laser and Laser Radial. Three races are scheduled for 49er competition.
