China will hold a grand military parade on Sept. 3 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II in a befitting manner, a tribute to millions of its people who contributed to the great victory through their sweat and blood. Also, officially termed the "Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression," the end of the war had different meanings and connotations for the people of China, compared to many other countries which were part of the global conflict.

In simple words, the end of war for China meant not only a victory of its "resistance against the aggression by imperial Japan", but also, in a broader sense, it meant the beginning of a new dawn for the country and its people. The founding of the People's Republic of China and fast-track development confirm this notion.

The main event of the commemoration will be a huge military parade, for which extensive preparations have been made. Troops have been trained to perfection and their movements have been measured to the extent of millimeters, according to reports. Military hardware including some of the latest weapons will be on display while modern fighter jets are expected to show up for aerial feats.

Several world leaders, heads of states, foreign ministers, diplomats and officials from the UN are expected to attend the activities of the day. Apart from the parade, the festivities also include a rally, reception and evening gala in Beijing. Being the first such mega event since President Xi Jinping took office in 2013 makes it even more important for the Chinese government and its people.

The occupation of the mainland by its then impervious neighbor is a painful chapter in the history of China. World War II which began for other countries in 1939 had, in fact, already started for China in July 1937. The conflict later on merged with the global war after Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor in 1941.

The details of the conflict show that the Chinese people fought bravely against a strong and better equipped Japanese army. Despite some initial setbacks, which also resulted in the relocation of the seat of government, the Chinese held their ground and eventually emerged victorious when Japan was forced to surrender after the tragic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
