Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus won't play again this season and will miss the start of the 2025-26 campaign after the club confirmed he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury during Sunday's FA Cup defeat against Manchester United.

Coach Mikel Arteta explained in a press conference on Tuesday that he was "worried" about losing the Brazilian and his worst fears have now been confirmed.

"Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee," said Arsenal in a communique, that added: "Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation program."

The injury comes with Gabriel Jesus in his best form of the campaign after scoring six goals in his last seven appearances and it sees him join a long injury list that includes Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ethan Nwaneri and Riccardo Calafiori.

Arteta confirmed on Tuesday that the club was "actively looking" to make a signing in January, given that England winger Saka, won't return until March.

"It would be naive not to do that because there is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad, so yes, we are looking and let's see what we are able to do," explained the coach.

Arsenal has been linked with Real Sociedad's Spain international midfielder, Martin Zubimendi, but also needs a forward after accusations in recent matches that it has lacked bite in attack after a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle and Sunday's Cup exit to Manchester United.
