Guo Shuang of China broke the Games record to win the women's 500m cycling time trial at the Doha Asian Games on Saturday.

Guo timed at 35.175 seconds for the gold medal, followed by Hsiao Mei Yu of Chinese Taipei in 36.190 and You Jin A of South Korea in 36.961.

"Before the race, my coach told me to be relaxed. I know my opponents well," said Guo.

"I did not think much about the record, because I knew what I needed to do at that moment was to concentrate on the track," added Guo.

Under the guidance of her Swiss coach, Guo made significant progresses during the past two years, collecting two national titles in half a year, and winning two gold medals in the international competitions.

"I learned a lot when I was training in Switzerland. My coach designed a specific training schedule for me," said Guo.

Talking about her next goal after the Asian Games, Guo said she has already set her sight upon the Beijing Olympics.

"Winning a medal for the motherland is every cyclist's dream. I am young, and I think I still have some room to improve in the sport," added Guo.

Guo will compete in the women's sprint slated for December 13th.

The former record of 35.305 seconds in the women's 500m time trial was set by Jiang Yonghua of China in the 2002 Busan Asiad.
