- Our Lady of Penha Chapel

Inside of the Our Lady of Penha Chapel [Photo/Yangcheng Evening News]

The chapel was constructed in 1622 at the top of Penha Hill. In front of the chapel was a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes facing the ocean. The chapel was built by Portuguese sailors to express their gratitude to the deity who was believed to be their savior when encountering Dutch pirates in those days.
