Located in Shule county, Kashgar, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Zhang Qian Memorial Hall (Shule Museum) showcases over 310 exhibits, including 113 cultural artifacts, telling the legend of Zhang Qian (164-114 BC), Shule's traditional culture and rich history.

One exhibition focuses on the imperial envoy of Zhang Qian's diplomatic mission to the Western Regions over 2,000 years ago. His pioneering trek across Central Asia opened up a route that later became the Silk Road.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the culture and history of Shule through exhibitions featuring notable historical figures, local folk customs and the intangible cultural heritage of various ethnic groups in the county.

In his famous book "Great Tang Records on the Western Regions", Tang Dynasty (618-907) Buddhist monk Xuanzang records his journey to Shule, detailing the region's weather, biodiversity, numerous Buddhist temples and monks.

The museum also organizes diverse activities to attract visitors, particularly young people.

Once a pivotal nexus on the ancient Silk Road, the county continues to draw tourists with its blend of historical and ethnic allure along with stunning natural scenery, such as snowcapped mountains and majestic poplar forests.

In recent years, the number of tourists to Shule county has steadily increased. In 2023, the county welcomed over 1.85 million visitors, with its tourist market expanding nationwide and a rapid growth in self-driving tourists.

To enhance tourist experiences, Shule county has been striving to improve its infrastructure. Upgrades to public facilities such as public restrooms, parking lots and charging stations are underway to ensure visitors enjoy their stay in the county.
