"By visiting our pavilion, people could learn more about the UK and its capability," Prince Andrew of Britain said Wednesday in Shanghai.

Andrew, the United Kingdom's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, also head of the UK delegation to the UK National Day at Shanghai World Expo 2010, which fell on Wednesday, made the statement during a face-to-face interview on Wednesday.

The Duke of York said, "The UK pavilion is a very unique place. This time we are delighted to be a part of Shanghai. I have only visited the China pavilion and UK pavilion. The China pavilion is a tempting one. The UK pavilion helps the Chinese people know more about this country."

"This time we want to deliver a simple message that the UK is a creative country of the 21st century. We are willing to work and collaborate with China. During the Shanghai Expo, we have plenty of contact with the businesses from China and invite leaders to visit the UK pavilion, which we see as a platform."

Prince Andrew noted that he has seen the huge progress made within Shanghai, and that Shanghai has accomplished much in the fields of trade and financial services.

He suggested that China should make its market level for both international banks and domestic banks to allow them to compete. "That's the first step to move forward. Giving the same standard would make things more global," he said.

Prince Andrew noted, "We just experienced a very sharp recession and now we are moving on. International trading relations are important to the future of the UK. We regard China and India as two potential markets."

He noted that as China was readjusting its trading structure by importing more high-tech, environmentally-friendly and high value-added products, he thought there was a chance for the UK to bring more high technology to the Chinese market.

"The UK is a good choice if Chinese enterprises want to access the European market or the entire world," Prince Andrew added.
