Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology plans to construct a global marine cooperative network for science and technology by jointly organizing research projects, the exchange of experts and sharing devices to attract more overseas experts.

First established in 2015, the lab has been processing smoothly, discovering rare earth sediment in the Indian Ocean, making substantial progress in its predictions about evolution of the extreme El Nino and La Nina weather phenomena.

Wu Lixin, director of the lab, said that the lab has led in the country's reform of the scientific and technological systems, and also represents the useful effort of national lab building with Chinese characteristics through the optimum distribution of resources to form a synergic and innovative pattern.

The lab established a system of responsibility through the committee of directors, which is under the guidance of the academic committee and managed by a board of trustees composed of experts from 11 ministries and scientific research organizations in Shandong province and Qingdao city.
