After the earthquake struck Yushu, medical staff from around the country rushed to the quake-hit area to help with the rescue work.

 

April 14th

In the 999 First Aid Center of the Beijing Red Cross Society, the first medical team dispatched by the central government is ready to head to quake-hit Yushu.

Apr.15th

Medical staff from around the country are organized by the Ministry of Health. They are equipped with urgently needed medicine and rescue equipment. Most of them are experienced in surgery and first aid.

April 16th

More than 1,600 medical workers, bring with them large supplies of relief materials, to help the victims in Yushu.

Li Yaping, Vice Director of Qinghai Army Reservist Brigade Hospital, said, "We've worked the whole night. Patients come, they queue up. Whoever has the most urgent need, we take care of them first."

April 17th

Qinghai Blood Center delivers more than 28 thousand milliliters of blood to Yushu. Meanwhile, Beijing Blood Center also offers 200 thousand milliliters of blood in reserve.

At a donation station at Chengdu Blood Center, local residents form a long queue to donate blood.

Local Resident, said, "I did not expect this. I came here early in the morning, and I've waited two hours."

April 18th

The first team of medical workers dispatched by Taiwan Red Cross Society arrives at quake-hit Qinghai province. Some of them are veterans of rescue operations in the Wenchuan earthquake.

Zhang Caiwang, Director, said, "On TV, I saw our brothers got hurt, they need help. I thought I must help them."

April 19th

After being transferred to Xi'an from Yushu, Chengle Zhaxi received care at a local hospital where he's recovered.

He says the one thing he wants to do most, is to be a volunteer and help more people in his hometown.
