Six dolphins have arrived in Beijing by air from Japan. They have passed Beijing Quarantine Bureau's examination and been moved to the city's ocean park. After 30 days isolation and inspection, they will begin their new life in Beijing.

Staff say the six dolphins include two white-sided dolphins and four bottle-nose dolphins. Each is being held in a special water tank three meters long, and a meter wide. And there are several ice cubes in each tank.

A dolphin trainer said, " The dolphins can easily recover their body temperature in this tank."

Dolphins depend on the temperature of water which should be around ten to twenty degrees centigrade. Now is time of seasonal change, and temperature also changes at this time. So the staff strictly control the living temperature of the dolphins before they set off. After placing the tanks near the pool, staffs check the dolphins' health.

One of the white-sided dolphins is checked first. It's all white below its mouth which is how it gets its name. It is having an intravenous injection.

Zhu Guangkai, Beijing Quarantine Bureau, said, "The dolphin should take some salt to add strength after its long journey."

The dolphins will slowly adapt to their new environment and begin to play with their trainers. Staff carefully checking their condition. Dolphins do not like being alone, so a male and a female live together.

Zhu said, "They will be kept away from other animals during this isolation period."

During this time, the quarantine bureau will carry out regular check ups of the dolphins in their new environment, and staff at ocean park will look after them around the clock. After a month, the six dolphins will live with other dolphins in the park, and Beijing residents will be able to see them.
