A new masterplan is about to impact the blooming culture scene across southern China. Guangdong Province is seeking opportunities to form a golden triangle with Hong Kong and Macao to form a more robust cultural industry.

Following the development plan of the Pearl River Delta, a promotion association has been recently established in Guangdong Province, intending to establish cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the cultural industry. As the director explains, this is an essential move for the long-awaited collaboration.

Guo Zilong, Director of Culture Commission Association said "We are attempting to pull out a platform with the best of all three regions. Hong Kong and Macao have an advantage on funding and international reputation, while Guangdong has the comprehension for the local identity. This can be the superior combination."

Filed under "the Cantonese-language-speaking culture", the relationship between three regions may seem close, but in the past, they have barely connected to each other in the cultural industry.

While Guangdong owns a top-level creative industry in the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao have been taking the lead in East Asia in the film and tourism industry for a long time. And now the government is making concentrated efforts to provide opportunities, hoping to introduce more collaborations on projects such as animated pictures, TV & radio production, and publishing.

As several artists' quarters are already founded in a few Guangdong cities, the officials are hoping to attract investments to the local cultural scene, and therefore contribute to the development of the delta's service industries.
