In an exclusive interview with China.org.cn, Dr. Jaishankar, Indian ambassador to China, discussed political, economic and military cooperation between the two nations.

1. This year is the year of communication between China and India, which is a concept that has been promoted by the two prime ministers, and I know the Indian Embassy has been working on this. What results have you seen from your hard work? >>>>>

2. Trade cooperation between the two countries has been a major driver of the bilateral relationship. What's the reason behind this slow development? What's your view on the state of bilateral trade relations? How should the two sides move forward on FTA negotiations? >>>>>

3. Some Western media will say India and China are two rivals in Asia. Both have big populations, are emerging economies, and are in great need of resources. The two cannot escape the curse of realism. How do you see this attitude? How should the two countries go beyond the curse of realism? >>>>>

4. China and India share commonalities as you have mentioned. We have common challenges on which we need to cooperate with each other and forge ahead. But as two different countries, we also hold some different opinions on some issues. For example, regarding the three triangles in South Asia: China-India-Pakistan relations, China-US-India relations, and US-Pakistan-India relations. What kind of patterns would be ideal in your mind? >>>>>

5. Since the beginning of the 19th century, Alfred Mahan has regarded the Indian Ocean as the Ocean of the 21st Century, and now, this forecast seems to have become a reality as China and India emerge on the global stage. How do you see the role of the Indian Ocean in the 21st century, especially from a geopolitical perspective, and what do you think of possible cooperation for China and India in this ocean? To be more specific, which fields are more probable for cooperation? How do you read the US's role in these waters? >>>>>

6. Sino-India relations have gone beyond bilateral, and are going global. How should the two cooperate under the mechanism of BRICS? What role should BRICS play on the international stage? >>>>>

7. This year is the "communication year between China and India." As we all know, the media plays a key role in promoting communication between people. What are your expectations of media in the two countries, and how should media play a constructive role in promoting bilateral relations? >>>>>
