Improving social wellbeing is listed as a main concern at this year's NPC session. Besides focusing on people's livelihood, curbing corruption is also a critical talking point. The Chinese government has announced new and tough measures to fight corruption among public servants.

Over the past year, the authorities have investigated over 25-thousand suspected cases of embezzlement and bribery among government officials. More than 2,200 of them are being investigated. Fighting corruption among officials is the top priority for the Chinese government.

Cui Yadong, the deputy of Guizhou Provice, said," In terms of rapid economic growth, fighting corruption is not only a necessity for creating a better social environment for China's future development, it is also the responsibility that government has to take, and only if we continue to strengthen anti-corruption campaigns, will people maintain their confidence in all levels of government."

Additional measures will be introduced to prevent embezzlement. The next step will concentrate on bribery and corruption relating to construction and agricultural projects.

Cui also said," In order to curb corruption, more regulations are coming out, and some measures are added to target specific areas, such as governmental procurement, governmental projects' bids. All regulatory adjustments made by authorities are aimed at regulating the behavior of public servants and preventing bribery and embezzlement happening. "

Besides, regulatory actions pinpointing to governmental issues, property proclaiming requirement is also another pilot program trying to reduce public servant's illegal income.

Lin Fan, the deputy of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said," It is obviously a huge progress that public servants at all levels must register their properties. I also have to report my own. It may take some time to prefect the whole system; however, this is an initial and positive step towards fighting corruption."

The central government is also setting up channels to solicit public opinion, setting up the hotline 12309, and carrying out other watchdog programs.
