Top seed Li Xiaoxia of China said on Monday she is keen to start the campaign to win her first ever individual title at the ongoing World Table Tennis Championships.
"I have a strong desire to compete now after I saw some of my main opponents here. I hope I could work up my forms for the tournament," the 23-year-old said.
Li said she will be well-prepared for every match.
"I will focus mainly on myself, no matter whom I will meet in the tournament, I will look to every detail and fight for every point," she said.
"Li is the hot favorite to win the women's singles title," said Shi Zhihao, head coach of Chinese women's team.
"Xiaoxia is the reigning Asian Games champion, and won the silver medalist and the bronze medalist respectively from the two world individual championships she participated. She is experienced and has what it takes to win the title," said Shi.
Li will probably meet Seok Ha-jung in the third round, a South Korean player who beat the Chinese ace player last year in the World Team Championships.
Li and Seok are no strangers for each other as years ago they played together under the guidance of Qiao Yunping, a world champions from Shandong, China.
"If everything goes as expected, Xiaoxia will meet Seok," said Shi.
"She is one of our main opponents and she beat Xiaoxia last year in the world team event, but technically and psychologically speaking, Xiaoxia enjoys some edge," Shi said.
