Seven members of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) and one Turkish soldier were killed during clashes in southeastern and eastern Turkey on Thursday, local media reported Friday.

Conflicts occurred between the PKK and security forces at Helin Valley in the southeastern Hakkari Province on Thursday evening, killing four PKK members, including two females, the semi-official Anatolia news agency cited a statement from the Hakkari Governorship as saying.

On Thursday night, one soldier was killed in an attack by alleged PKK members on troops patrolling in the Dogubeyazit district of the eastern province of Agri, the newspaper Hurriyet Daily News reported on its website Friday.

Meanwhile, three suspected PKK members were killed in fire fight with gendarmerie and police forces in the Depin area of the eastern province of Hakkari on Thursday, said the newspaper, adding that grenades and long-range weapons were found on the dead bodies.

The report said PKK rebels also attacked a police precinct in the Dicle district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Thursday.

Large scale operations were launched in the areas where the various attacks took place, said the newspaper.

The Anatolia news agency reported Thursday a group of PKK members assaulted a police station in Caldiran town of Van Province, with three PKK members killed and two policemen wounded.

Listed as a terrorist organization by the Turkish government, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 in order to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey.

Some 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the PKK for the past over two decades.
