Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang and First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Andrey Kluev Wednesday pledged to intensify bilateral cooperation in various fields.

During a meeting with Kluev, Zhang said the year 2010 was of special significance for China-Ukraine ties and cooperation, as the leaders of the two countries have made clear blueprints for the development of bilateral ties in terms of the positioning of their political relationship, establishment of cooperation mechanism and objectives of their pragmatic cooperation.

He said China is willing to work together with Ukraine to implement the decisions and consensus reached by the leaders of the two nations and maintain close communication with Ukraine on major issues of common concern in their pragmatic cooperation.

During the meeting, Zhang and Kluev jointly launched an intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation and co-presided over its first meeting.

Zhang said the intergovernmental commission will become a core mechanism for coordinating and planning the all-round cooperation between China and Ukraine.

It will also help accelerate and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Zhang said the launch of the commission has brought the cooperation mechanism between China and Ukraine to a new level. The two sides need to make good use of this platform to promote the healthy development of bilateral ties.

For his part, Kluev said that Ukraine attaches great importance to China and promoting Ukraine-China relations is a priority in the country' s diplomacy.

He hailed the high level political mutual trust between China and Ukraine, saying the two countries enjoy great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation as their economies are highly complementary.

He added that the intergovernmental commission serves as a platform through which the two countries could discuss major issues and specific projects.

He said it is conducive to mapping out a long-term cooperation strategy by the two nations.
