The concluding statement of the two- day summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Cairo and chaired by Egypt, supported the quartet initiative of Egypt, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia to reach an "earnest dialogue " between the Syrian government and the exiled opposition coalition to put an end to the ongoing bloodshed.

"We all agreed on intensifying efforts to put an end to the tragedy of the Syrian people," Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said in his concluding speech, reaffirming backing the unity of the Syrian lands and its people.

The summit also backed the peacemaking efforts of the United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in brokering negotiations between Syrian government and opposition.

With regard to the Palestinian issue, the concluding statement decided to organize a donor conference in financial support of the Palestinians, and to form Aman (Safety) Islamic Financial Network to provide aid to the distressed Palestinians.

The statement also urged joint efforts to combat the "feverish" Israeli settlement expansion as described by Morsi.

The final agreement also supported the unity of Mali and the preservation of its sovereignty, stressing the necessity of mobilizing development efforts and providing financial aids to the conflict-stricken country.

"We agreed on the necessity of forming a transitional government and holding free, transparent and fair parliamentary elections in Mali," Morsi said in his speech.

The OIC final statement showed support for the initiatives provided by the African Union to resolve the conflict, and backed efforts to deploy international military mission in Mali under African leadership.

The final statement also urged a joint Islamic action to combat Islamophobia and spread the true principles of Islam including tolerance, justice and peace.
