Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday announced a 1 million U.S. dollars financial aid to Palestinian refugees, while reaffirming his country's support to the Palestinians for a peace deal.

Malaysia will contribute the fund to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees to help Palestinian refugees affected by the resent Israeli military actions in the Gaza strip, Najib said.

His government has recently donated 1 million ringgit (329 thousand U.S. dollars) to the Palestinians through the newly launched Gaza Emergency Fund by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

"We all hope and pray for a quick and lasting resolution to this historical injustice. In the meantime, Malaysia will continue to help the Palestinian people, whether in cash or in kind and political support," he said.

Last year, the Malaysian government provided financial assistance of 2 million U.S. dollars to cover the operational cost of the Embassy of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur and other forms of aids including scholarship for Palestinian students to study in Malaysia.

Speaking at the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Najib said Malaysia stands with Palestinians in searching for a peace solution of the conflict between Palestine and Israel.

"We share their hope for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, one based on compliance with international law, standards and resolutions," he said.

The Malaysian prime minister hailed Palestine's successful bid of the status of a non-member observer state in the United Nation as a "significant achievement."

"With time and reconciliation, it will enable the Palestinians to rebuild their lives and build a better future for their children, away from the threats of isolation, extremism and violence," he said.

Meanwhile, Najib called for different Palestinian fractions to come together for reconciliation.

"I would also like to appeal to the Palestinian factions to initiate reconciliation talks immediately and unconditionally, to resolve political differences for the sake of unity and their people," he said, "Disagreement and divide will further worsen the situation and risk the lives of more Palestinians."
