每年初春是兩會召開之際，有人把“兩會”譯為 the two meetings，在中國人看來這樣譯沒有問題；但在對外報道和宣傳中最好說清楚。

“兩會”指全國人民代表大會（the National People's Congress）和中國人民政治協商會議（the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference）。兩會是每年召開的會議，可在前面加上annual session of。

表示“會”的英文詞匯很多。congress 一詞常表示專門性代表大會，比較正式而隆重，出席會議的代表一般是選舉產生的，會上通過的決議往往具有約束力。“中國共產黨的全國代表大會”就是 national congress of the Chinese Communist Party，美國的國會也稱 congress。

Congress多指協商討論性的會議，出席的代表通常是邀請、協商產生或有關單位委派的，會議的決議往往不具有約束力。

Meeting是其中最普通的詞，詞義比較籠統。meeting 可以泛指各種有目的的集會，如 mass meeting（群眾大會），farewell meeting（歡送會），class meeting（學生開的班會），由各國元首或政府首腦出席的“峰會”是summit meeting，現在meeting一詞常省略。“座談會”等學術性會議常用forum 和symposium。

漢語中有些“會”已不屬于meeting的范疇，比如“展覽會”是exhibition 或show；春節期間的“廟會”可譯為festival temple fair，元宵節的“燈會”應該是lantern show。
